Making a message on my much-neglected dA account because the 1000-character writing box on Change.org is far too short for sharing my last thoughts on this issue. : I

Well, it's been a long time since we've heard anything new on the Save Derpy front. We've heard back from folks, certainly, although never to me directly. Still, Amy's message was eye-opening, and shed some much-needed light on this entire situation. This update is a bit late to the party, but it's no less what I was thinking then.

This whole Derpy situation (I like the term Derpygate. It's pretty funny.) has caused a lot of banding together here in our fandom, which is great. But it's also caused a lot of fighting, which is definitely not something I like to see. We're now quite a few episodes removed from The Last Roundup, and things have quieted down. Derpy is here to stay as our loveable cross-eyed background pony. To those saying that we don't know if she'll return for season 3 - we most certainly don't know that, but we DO know that they could have edited her to straighten her eyes back before airing the new episodes. An edit like that would be quick, and pulled off relatively easily if they saw the necessity to do so.  They never did that, so we can safely conclude she's safe. Even in the preview clip from the soon-to-be-aired episode, Hurricane Fluttershy, she remains her derpy self.

She'll be staying as a shoutout to us as bronies, even if she can't be quite as blatant as she was before.

And, honestly? I'm okay with that. Even the fact that they TRIED to give us a shoutout was awesome on their part. Studio B is an amazing team, and obviously not just for Derpy. While Derpy's new voice doesn't really sound great, we've still got the DVD that pretty well immortalizes the original scene. In essence, what we've got now is a compromise. Hasbro/The Hub did what they had to do to appease everyone Derpy upset. This is the reason this petition never did or ever really WILL do anything. At the same time, Derpy has not been removed from the show as a whole, and that's what matters the most.

Is this the perfect situation? Obviously not.
Is it something that we as the fans should be able to accept? Yes, absolutely. For that reason, and because I know there's no way it will ever return that scene, I'm closing down the petition.

Now, let's all go back to enjoying the show and watching out for that golden mane and crossed eyes we all know and love.

I can confirm that the reruns have in fact been also changed to the new version... I just watched it. If anyone still cares. xD

Maybe a 'Season 3: Derpy with voice and name mentioned'.
Here how it might work:
1)Keep new voice
2)Derp her
3)Have some pony mention her while she is either on screen or not when mentioned.

I do like the new voice because she sounds like a little girl (like a filly in pony terms). Everything else makes her her.
The new voice used in Season 3 may help keep the up rise from happening again. I do want Derpy to speak more so the bronies and pegasisters happy.

I agree with Proxy, I didn't sign so we could enforce a changeback. I signed to show that I, and everyone else who signed, have a deep and caring love for Derpy and what she represents, and that she's not retarded but cute and funny and inspirational. And we did. More than 44,000 signatures, that's a strong message.

Heh. I'm a latecomer to this fandom. If someone had told me two months ago that I was going to be emotionally invested in the personal rights of a minor background character in "My Little Pony", I would have laughed at them. Funny how things happen, no?

So this is it? Nothing.

I didn't sign the petition because I thought they were going to return the episode to normal. I signed it because I wanted Hasbro to recognize my love for the character. To understand that they maybe did a mistake.

I did it so Hasbro could feel secure in including Derpy in future episodes without worrying what everyone will think.

I would be lying if I said I wasn't a little disappointed. And for that I'm sorry.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, the petition was most definitely seen by Hasbro, the folks at Studio B, The Hub... Everywhere! They certainly do know we love Derpy. I'm positive that's why she's staying as a background character, even after all this.

However, with Amy's letter comes the realization that while it certainly looks like an attack to us, who love the character, it wasn't that at all. It wasn't even attempting to appease the offended minority. Amy was affected directly, and that's the important factor here.

I don't agree that Derp means what she thinks it means... But I do understand that she has a disabled son, and that makes this entire controversy hit uncomfortably close to home for her.

Honestly? I'd still be running the petition if it weren't for that. But when the issue is directly affecting the writer of the episode, I can't help but understand they took the action they had to take in that one case.

That said, I understand that you're disappointed, and you don't have to be sorry for that. I simply chose a side on the issue, which is something any thinking being is wont to do. Likewise, it stands to reason that my decision would go against what others believe, so... I'm not surprised. I wish I could appease everyone, but I feel like I'm doing the right thing, personally.

Sorry about the extra-long comment... This is a complicated matter, so I figured there were some important things to touch on in my reply. Heh.

Why does everyone overplay AKR's role in this? She had almost nothing to do with the decision. Hasbro WAS pandering to the minority. Amy's letter was meant to appease the fans with her viewpoint on the matter, nothing more.

At least the episode is unaltered in the Friendship Express DVD & HUB reruns...

Oh? I knew about the DVD. But they haven't altered it for reruns? That's great news, actually! I could have sworn if they'd changed the download, they'd change the one they played on the actual network...
Huh, interesting, that.
